ADR1ft will have its release date delayed to coincide with the launch of the Oculus Rift early next year says publisher 505 Games. The original date set the game hit stores later this month, but Oculus has hand picked ADR1FT to be one of their marquee launch titles, prompting the delay. We still don’t have an official date for Oculus Rift, aside from the early 2016 window, so news will have to come later on that front.
ADR1FT is an original game from Adam Orth’s Three One Zero studio and 505 Games. It is a first-person space survival game where players are stranded on a nearly destroyed space station. We got to chat with Adam about the inspirations behind the game, and how it helped him deal with his highly publicized split from Microsoft, which you can read here. We also went hands-on with ADR1FT and came away quite impressed; check out our preview here.
“Virtual reality is the next phase of innovation in gaming,” said Ian Howe, President of 505 Games. “As a publisher, we’re always looking for the best platforms and technology to showcase our games and working with Oculus will allow gamers to experience ADR1FT in an enhanced way that only can be done through the immersion of virtual reality.”
While ADR1FT will work on a standard TV/monitor on any of its release platforms, the game does seem tailor-made for virtual reality. The move to align the game’s launch with the Oculus Rift might anger those that have been waiting for the game, but it makes a lot of sense. It will also allow gamers to enjoy ADR1FT under the best possible condition right at launch.
ADR1FT will be released on PC and the Oculus Rift in Q1 2016. A PS4 and Xbox One version have been previously announced, but there is no word on when to expect them following this delay.
