Gearbox Software’s Battleborn already has a roster of 25 characters to choose from, though they will be releasing even more for free as time goes on. They have now revealed that the first of the free characters is named Alani, who will be available to download on May 31st.
Alani is described as a warrior-monk healer that can be unlocked a week early on May 24th for Digital Deluxe and Season Pass owners, or unlocked in-game for 47,000 credits a week later. Those who have the Digital Deluxe edition or Season Pass will unlock the character via the Hero Key.
Here’s how Gearbox described the Hero Key process:
“Complete the challenge objective or reach the required Command Rank at any time after unlocking a hero using a Hero Key, then that Hero Key will be returned to you and you can then use that Hero Key to unlock another hero.”
To make matters even better, anyone who took part in the PlayStation 4 open beta will be getting a Hero Key for free. They can use this key to unlock Alani on May 24th, another hero, or the upcoming story DLC.
To cap all of this off, Battleborn will also be having a Double XP event that begins on May 20th at 8 AM PT and ends on May 25th at 8 AM PT. Players will earn double Character and Command Rank experience across all story and multiplayer modes.
Battleborn is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can check out our review by clicking right here.
