Jurassic World comes out in just a over a month’s time. Can the movie recapture the same type of magic as 1993’s Jurassic Park?

Jurassic Park wowed audiences back in 1993 as the movie had some of the best special effects ever put on screen. Dinosaurs have been on the big screen before, but they never looked as good as they did in Jurassic Park. Not to mention the film had a good mix of realistic looking CGI and animatronics.

Because of how entertaining the movie was, Jurassic Park became the highest grossing movie ever at that time. It grossed an amazing $914 million worldwide. This record stood until Titanic came out, and now Avatar holds that record today.

As amazing as Jurassic Park was, the franchise failed to make decent sequels after this. Even though The Lost World: Jurassic Park was still directed by Steven Spielberg, it got mixed reviews from fans and critics. It wasn’t an overly bad movie, but it was nothing special either.

After The Lost World: Jurassic Park, we received the disaster that was Jurassic Park III in 2001. It was the lowest grossing movie of the franchise and also the worst received one too. Not to mention the popular T-Rex was shafted in favor of the Spinosaurus. Overall, it wasn’t really a good movie.

Universal tried to get Jurassic Park 4 off the ground for many years, but failed to do so. That is until Jurassic World came to be and now it’s coming out in just a month’s time. Can Jurassic World be the great sequel than fans have wanted since 1993?

Reception for Jurassic World has been quite positive so far. It benefits greatly that Chris Pratt is the leading man in this film. Many people loved Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy and it looks like his witty charm will translate well in this film too.

Another thing Jurassic World does right is that it’s bringing back the original T-Rex from the 1993 movie. Not only that, but there’s a scene in the movie where Pratt’s character talks to the velociraptors. There will also be a new dinosaur called the Indominus rex which is a hybrid of many other species.

Unlike with Terminator Genisys, the marketing for Jurassic World has been decent without giving away too many spoilers. The first trailer has nearly a whopping 60 million views on YouTube. Although the second trailer has only received 17 million views, reception has still been mostly positive.

The story of Jurassic World is the only thing that could ruin the movie’s success. If it’s like the recent Planet of the Apes, then it could be good. The newer Planet of the Apes movies paid homages to the original films, but they still offered us something original. If Jurassic World is just a carbon clone of the first Jurassic Park movie, then people might be upset. We’ve seen this before as Star Trek Into Darkness was pretty much the same movie as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

There’s a chance Jurassic World could be good, but that’s only if the movie can wow audiences in the same way that Jurassic Park did in 1993. It might be difficult to do this though as every movie has CGI these days.

Do you feel Jurassic World will be successful, or should the Jurassic Park franchise stay extinct?
