Bad news for those Gran Turismo fans who still haven’t made the jump to the next generation: The most recent PS3 entry, Gran Turismo 6, will shut down all of its online features on March 28, 2018, about four and a half years since its original release. The news have been shared through the series’ official website, in which it is also specified that distribution of downloadable content will also end on January 31, 2018.
This means that users will not be able to use certain features such as the Community, Open Lobby, Quick Match, and Seasonal Events, although of course, all offline portions of the game will still be perfectly playable. This comes at a time when Polyphony Digital’s focus has been completely shifted to the most recent game in the series: Gran Turismo Sport for PS4, which presents an enhanced platform for online races. Not only that, but the game has also been recently updated with more single player content such as the GT League mode.
Some issues that GT6 players should have in mind are that they should redeem all their codes before online services close in March, in order to have them available on the game. If you previously installed that content but you deleted it, you will be able to re-download it from the Download List in the Account Management section of PSN. After March 2018 it will also be impossible to transfer data from the GT6 Track Path Editor app on mobile platforms to the PS3 game.
