Blizzard has announced that a brand new expansion for World of Warcraft will be revealed at next week’s Gamescom convention in Germany. On Thursday, August 6th at 9am PDT Blizzard will take the stage and show off the new expansion.
“Join us Thursday, August 6 at 9 a.m. PDT for a special World of Warcraft event streamed live from gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany—where we’ll be unveiling the next chapter of the World of Warcraft saga. . . .”
Fans who are interested can follow Blizzard’s official Gamescom 2015 page for live stream details, or check back here for all the latest from the show. There will also be a developer chat after the announcement, starting August 9th at 8am PDT.
While the audience for World of Warcraft may have waned a bit over the last few years, it is still a massive amount of people, with the latest estimates putting the count at over 7 million. Of course that number always spikes with the introduction of any major expansion, with Warlords of Draenor resulting in a jump to around 10 million, before dropping back down.
Whatever this new expansion is, it will be the sixth one to hit World of Warcraft, which debuted in late 2004. The eleven year old game has continued to stay extremely popular, mostly thanks to the constant changes and refreshes that Blizzard does from time to time.
