Last month, during this year’s SXSW, Sega announced Sonic Mania Plus, an expanded version of last year’s critically acclaimed Sonic Mania. It was revealed that the new edition of the game would be coming out this summer, but now we have a specific release date.
The official trailer for Sonic Mania Plus was uploaded to YouTube today (April 25) and reveals that the game is set to release on July 17. This new edition of the game features two new playable characters, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel, whose gameplay can be seen in the new trailer. Also included will be an Encore Mode, which will have players playing through new versions of the original Sonic Mania Zones, and a four-player Competition Mode.
Players who already own Sonic Mania will be able to download all the new content via DLC on July 17. Sonic Mania Plus will also have physical copies that include a 32-page art book and a reversible cover that is designed to look like the cover of a Sega Genesis game. Physical copies will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, while digital copies and digital DLC for the original Sonic Mania will be available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
