Even though both Suicide Squad and Batman vs Superman didn’t get any love from critics, the former is a fun movie that is actually worth watching.

Suicide Squad does a lot of things that people want out of action movies. The pace is not as slow and the characters are having fun. Not to mention the movie is well received by many big YouTube reviewers that disliked Batman vs Superman. Angry Joe, Jeremy Jahns and Collider’s John Campea all liked Suicide Squad better than Dawn of Justice. If you visit Rotten Tomatoes, 74% of the audience like the movie compared to the 65% audience approval rating that Batman vs Superman received.

Anyway, I’m  surprised that Suicide Squad is only liked by 26% of movie critics. The movie is not perfect, but other average movies are rated higher such as the poorly received Spider-Man 3, X-Men: Origins Wolverine and 2016’s Ghostbusters. Here are many reasons why this movie does things better than Batman vs Superman. Spoilers will follow so avoid if you have not seen it yet.

Better Pace and More Action: Suicide Squad’s pace is much faster and the action starts a lot earlier in the film. Batman vs Superman felt like a total drag the first time I watched the movie. I was looking at my watch wondering when the two heroes were going to fight. I had to wait 90 minutes before any substantial action sequences occurred. Waiting 90 minutes for any action to happen is way too long for a comic book movie. If you watch the Ultimate Edition, the action doesn’t start until the 2 hour mark.

Suicide Squad is much better in this regard. After the introductions are out of the way, they are already on their first mission before the first hour is up. The movie is also just 2 hours long compared to the 2 and a half hours of Batman vs Superman. The Ultimate Edition is 3 hours long and doesn’t add any extra action.

Spoiler Free Marketing: Suicide Squad had better trailers that didn’t reveal the entire plot of the movie. Batman vs Superman spoiled Doomsday and the whole structure of the movie was already revealed to everyone. I was looking at my watch again wondering when Doomsday will arrive. At least for Suicide Squad, I didn’t know what was going to happen most of the time.

A Structured Story With Less Dream Sequences: Suicide Squad’s plot may not be the best one out there, but at least it is structured in a linear fashion. Batman vs Superman tried to do too much by setting up future movies. The Injustice storyline was introduced, the Justice League members were shown plus they were cutting back and forth between too many characters. The dream sequences also bogged down the film which is the same problem I had with Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Suicide Squad only had small dream sequences near the end of the film when Enchantress was trying to manipulate the members. The movie did cut back to the past a lot of times, but this was done in order to give the backstories on all of the characters. There weren’t pointless scenes like Jonathan Kent talking to Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne seeing Man-Bat.

Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously: Before I talk about this, I do like seeing serious action movies from time-to-time. The Dark Knight is my favorite movie of all time while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is (in my opinion) the best Marvel movie ever made. However, Batman vs Superman just felt slow, prodding and depressing most of the time.

I was a huge fan of Man of Steel and that movie was entertaining for me. Batman vs Superman felt different and was far less fun to watch. Suicide Squad on the other hand has humor and a lighter tone. I would say it’s on par with Deadpool as one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year. The characters are also entertaining as they all had good chemistry.

Make Up Your Own Mind: Don’t let reviews from movie critics online sway your judgement. The best way to judge a movie is see it for yourself. I remember I thought I would disagree with the critics about Batman vs Superman, but they were right in my opinion as that movie had a lot of flaws. The Ultimate Edition is better, but it doesn’t help that Batman still kills people and Lex Luthor’s plan is nonsensical.

As for Suicide Squad, I disagree with the critics. I had a fun time watching it. Sure the plot is predictable, but it’s not supposed to be on the level of The Dark Knight. It’s a Summer blockbuster and people just want to have a good time. Don’t get me wrong, Batman vs Superman did have a lot of good parts in it. Hans Zimmer’s score is great and the action at the end was entertaining. It’s just that I agree that it’s a flawed film that could have been much better.
